WIth regards to life annuity products...

captive agents sell 3 times more variable annuities than independent agents (PPGAs- This includes brokers hired under PPGAs).

However with regards to life insurance products PPGAs(This includes brokers hired under PPGAs) sell more VL and VUL products than captives.

Variable annuities, VUL and VL are all investment-type products (linked to the financial markets).

Therefor my question is:

If PPGAa hire agents under them in order to recieve overriding comissions on sales. What do we call those additional hired agents? Is there a title?

Do PPGAs recieve overriding comissions by hired brokers also?

I am trying to make a graph that shows the trend from a single distribution channel to multiple distribution channels in the US.

Probably if I started in the 1980s until 2008 it would be more obvious.

I have searcher LIMRA and other sources but could only find between 1998 - 2001 which didn't show enough difference to be significant.

Thanks

Captive Agents vs Independent Agents

I noticed that in 2008 US captive agents earned approximately 35 billion dollars in variable annuity considerations compared to under 10 billion for independents.

On the other hand independents earned over 37 billion in fixed annuities compared with approximately 16 billion earned by selling the same product by captives.

Why does 1 agent sell more of 1 product than the other? Their sales are almost polar opposite. There must be a reason for this....

Are Broker-Dealers and Stockbrokers the same thing?

A broker-dealer is a company or other organization that trades securities for its own account or on behalf of its customers.

My question is this: How do I go about setting myself up with ins companies to sell life, disability, ltc and annuities? Can I get appointed as a sole proprietor? Or do I have to have a corp or llc?

I am currently licensed as an independent agent FL 2-15. I was recruited by the GA for a local company this year. From the outset they have emphasized contacting friends/family/past business associates and ask them to meet w/o me explaining what for.

Do you want the Cheapest...or the Best??

One of the most common questions is "Where can the cheapest insurance be found?". When considering insurance, a consumer needs to remember that the premium is not the only factor in the cost of a policy. There are many other components of the total cost of insurance. Some are very apparent, such as a deductible or co-payment. However, some require a little more thought and understanding. For example, car insurance may cost a certain amount per month and it may have a certain deductible, but what happens if an accident occurs?
